it was odd, it looked
the same as I remembered
somehow I had hoped it would not.

I admit
when your eyes caught mine from
across the room
it was not a passing glance
but a calculated gaze
intended to intersect with yours.

And it's true
I'd been looking for a while
hoping that maybe
you were looking at me
too.

But of course
you were not
and your eyes catch mine
only for a second
and you continue to
take in the room
without a moment's hesitence
